Melbourne have been forced to address rumours surrounding Simon Goodwin after online speculation over the coach's future with the club was ignited in recent days.
While the source of the rumours is not known, questions over Goodwin's tenure circulated online.
The club is said to have since labelled the rumours as "categorically untrue", with 9 News reporter Tom Morris shedding some light on the situation on Wednesday.
"Have spoken to Melbourne. Over the last few days rumours have run wild re Simon Goodwin's coaching future," Morris Tweeted.
"The club is at pains to say they are all categorically untrue & have no substance to them whatsoever."
Goodwin recently re-signed with the Demons last August, adding two more years to his contract to be tied with the club until the end of 2026.
The Adelaide Crows great joined Melbourne as an assistant in 2014, stepping into the senior role two years later, succeeding Paul Roos ahead of the 2017 season.
Goodwin has amassed a coaching record of 93 wins, one draw and 66 defeats in 160 games, resulting in a win rate of 58.44%.
The 47-year-old famously led the Demons to a drought-breaking premiership in 2021, winning the AFLCA Coach of the Year and All-Australian honours the same season.
Melbourne's 2024 season - which will be Goodwin's eighth in charge of the Redlegs - is set to get underway next Thursday with a trip to the SCG to face the Swans.
