Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin has signed a new two-year extension that will keep the premiership-winning coach with the Demons until the end of the 2026 season.
The club confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Goodwin had recommitted to the club with a deal that will see the 46-year-old move into a 10th season with Melbourne.
Goodwin helped lead the Demons to their drought-breaking grand final win in 2021 and has won 92 of his 157 games in charge of the red and blue.
โIt's an absolute privilege to coach this club,โ Goodwin said of the decision.
โIt takes so many great people to make a football club, from players to staff, to CEO and Board, to members and supporters. It's everyone, connected and aligned, and I'm just lucky enough to be steering the ship.โ
Goodwin took on the senior coaching role at Melbourne as part of a succession plan that saw Paul Roos hand the reins over to the five-time All-Australian.
The Demons would return to the top eight in Goodwin's second season, while 2019 has been the club's only losing season under their current coach.
โSimon is a passionate, dedicated Melbourne person, and we couldn't be more pleased to have him leading our AFL team for the next three years,โ Demons CEO Gary Pert said.
โSimon has taken our club to great heights, but it is his focus on continual improvement that is most impressive. He is steadfast in his pursuit of delivering our members and supporters more success.
โWe look forward to seeing what he and the team can achieve this season, and in the years to come.โ
Goodwin is hoping to steer Melbourne to another premiership in 2023, with the Demons currently set to play in their third successive finals campaign.
The Demons will face Sydney this week before embarking on their September run.
