Melbourne skipper Max Gawn has gone out on a limb to reveal the top five AFL players he enjoys watching, and not one of them is his teammate.
As the likely footy fan will say, players like Marcus Bontempelli, Nick Daicos, Isaac Heeney, and Jeremy Cameron are usually front of mind given their dominance.
But Gawn has taken a slightly different approach to who he prefers keeping a close eye on.
“It's not like Bont, Crisp, Ollie Wines. It's just based on people I enjoy watching," Gawn said on Triple M's Marty Sheargold Show.
“Number five is Jack Silvagni, 'cause he's the best-looking guy in the AFL. I love watching the best-looking guy in the AFL, with the best-looking father (Steven Silvagni) in the stands.
“Number four is Joe Daniher, purely because he lives 3-hours away from training in Byron Bay, doesn't have a TV, and takes contested marks for fun. My understanding is he has an apartment in Brisbane but lives in a different state from the club.
“Number three is Harley Reid; he's got in there real early. He's my midfielder of the five.”
“Charlie Curnow (is number) two. Not as good as last year – last year he was unbelievable – this year, he'll get there. He knows he's one of my favourites, I tell him.”
“(No-one) is near my number one. Number one is Levi Casboult. Good-looking, brute of a man. His job is to go out there and take contested marks and that's all his job is. He just goes out there and does it. He's my age, my year – I'm just all about Levi Casboult. (laughs)”
Gawn recently lined up against Reid in Sunday's defeat against West Coast and was in awe of the first-year wunderkind, who has taken the AFL by storm.
The No.9 scored a centre-bounce breakaway goal during the first term to get all fans off their seats - leaving star midfielder Christian Petracca in his dust - receiving comparisons to former Eagle champions in Chris Judd and Ben Cousins.
“I was on the bench for ‘the' goal. I did see the don't argue on Clayton and Christian, and I thought, ‘Maybe, I'll take him', but yeah, no," Gawn continued.
“It's quite unique to be able to play centre-bounce mid in your first year. None of our guys have ever really had that chance. It's only going to make him the fact he's playing against Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in his first year, in his ninth game.”
“I'm glad I'm going to be on the other side of the fence, calling the majority of his career. It's going to be a good one.”
After a slight form slump, the Demons will look to bounce back onto the winner's list when they face St Kilda on Sunday at the MCG.
