Melbourne defender Trent Rivers has become the latest Demon to sign a long-term deal with the club, with the Western Australian inking a new contract that will see him remain in the red and blue until the end of 2027.

The Demons already have signed Angus Brayshaw (2028), Christian Petracca (2029), Clayton Oliver (2030), Bayley Fritsch (2026) and Christian Salem (2026) to extensive deals over recent seasons, while recruit Brodie Grundy's contract will run until 2027.

Rivers has joined the contingent of Melbourne's finest to recommit to the club, with the Demons confirming on Thursday that the 21-year-old has signed a four-year extension.

Rivers has played 56 games for Melbourne since arriving at the club through the 2019 National Draft, joining the Demons alongside premiership teammates and WA products Kysaiah Pickett and Luke Jackson.

Jackson departed the club in favour of a move home to Fremantle last off-season, while Pickett is still considering his future ahead of the expiry of his current deal this year.

For Rivers though, the club have been able to retain their interstate gem for the long haul.

โ€œWe are really pleased that Trent has committed to the club for a further four years", Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb told Melbourne Media.

โ€œHe is such an important part of our future, and we are excited to see where he can take his game.

Rivers has recently looked to hone his craft as a midfielder, featuring in the engine room for Melbourne's Round 4 win over West Coast. The East Fremantle product collected a career-high 27 disposals along with six tackles, five rebound 50s and 11 contested possessions.

Rivers is set to feature in his side's Gather Round clash against Essendon at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
