Melbourne have discussed the knee injury sustained by star ruckman Max Gawn last Friday.
The 28-year old went down in an incident at the club's pre-season training camp on the Gold Coast but escaped serious injury.
Demons general manager of football Josh Mahoney said the three-time All-Australian would be back running on Monday and could play a practice match in three weeks time.
“I was there at training and it was just part of a match simulation drill where he had a marking contest and landed awkwardly and came off straight away,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“The immediate diagnosis was that there was some medial damage, but obviously with his history we needed to do a check-up and we were really happy with the results and he’ll be back running around on Monday and possibly able to play a game in three or four weeks time.”
Mahoney also discussed the prospects of the club signing former Sun and Docker Harley Bennell.
The injury-riddled midfielder had a recent calf setback, which will factor into the decision to offer him a contract.
“It was on the very minor end. When we first brought Harley on we knew there would be some setbacks along the way, given he has done his calf over 20 times,” he said.
“It was very minor and only pushed him back three days in his rehab.
“He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do on and off the field. He’s really taken to the players and he’s popular among the playing group.
“There’s an issue with his calf we have got to work through and we know it’s going to be a medium to long term process, but he’s been really good and at this stage it’s looking positive for him in getting a contract with us.
“I wouldn’t say it was a surprise that he hurt (his calf) and obviously he wanted to go through his rehab and not have any bumps along the way, but we were half expecting that.
“There’s two or three things we’re looking at and his calf is obviously a major one, but it hasn’t impacted our decision either way.”
