Melbourne captain Max Gawn has signed a new deal, locking him at the club until the end of 2027.

Gawn has been a pillar of the Demons' resurgence into premiership relevancy since he was taken with Pick 34 in the 2009 National Draft.

The six-time All-Australian couldn't imagine playing football anywhere else and he spoke about the importance of the club in his life.

โ€œThe Melbourne Football Club has been part of my life for a significant number of years.ย It isย home for me and my family,โ€ Gawn said.

โ€œI absolutely love the club and everyone in it, from my teammates and coaches to the staff and supporters. The people make this club so special.

โ€œIt is an honour to pull on the red and blue guernseyย each week and play for the Melbourne faithful. I count myself lucky that Iย have the opportunity toย do so for another couple of years, and can't thank our members and fans enough for all their continued support.

โ€œIย look forward to finishing off thisย season strongly, before getting to workย onย 2025.โ€

Club list manager Tim Lamb was stoked that their skipper was hanging around for a few more years.

โ€œMax is the ultimate professional, and a terrific leader of our football club,โ€ Lamb said.

โ€œTo have him sign on and commit to our program for an additional two years is incredibly exciting โ€“ not only for our players, coaches and staff, but for all those whose hearts bleed red and blue.

โ€œMax's on-field impact is unmatched, as is his hunger to continue to improve. He wants to grow his game and get the best out of himself, and helps those around him do the same.

โ€œThis, combined with his leadership style, is why we love him so much. Max personifies the Demon Spirit, and we're thrilled to have him commit his future to the club.โ€

Gawn has played 223 games in the red and blue, claiming two Keith โ€˜Bluey' Truscott Memorial Trophy winner whilst also captaining Melbourne to a premiership in 2021.
