Melbourne forward Harrison Petty has reportedly signed a two-year extension to keep him at the club until the end of 2027.

Petty - who has previously been linked with a move to his home state South Australia - has turned his back on a potential move to Adelaide, despite their heavy interest in him.

The 24-year-old has played 77 games for the Demons, including the 2021 drought-breaking premiership against the Western Bulldogs.

Channel 9's Tom Morris says the news of the extension is likely to be revealed soon by the club.

"Harrison Petty is off the trade table," Morris said.

"He signed a fresh two-year contract extension at the Demons. Already locked in until the end of 2025 but my understanding is that the club will announce that Petty has added two years on top of that, which takes him until the end of 2027.

"It is significant given Adelaide had interest last year and the broadly held belief was that the Crows would have another go this October.

Petty was initially drafted at Pick 37 in the 2017 National Draft from Wudinna United Football Club and Norwood in the SANFL.

Beginning his career as a defender, the South Australian has been played up forward in 2024 to help support youngster Jacob van Rooyen and Bayley Fritsch.

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin is adamant that he sees Petty as a key forward but admits it will take time to gel, despite his lack of form.

The re-signing of Petty leaves Adam Tomlinson, Ben Brown, Daniel Turner, Ed Langdon, Jake Melksham, Josh Schache, Lachie Hunter and Tom McDonald without deals for next year.

After dropping their Round 19 clash to Fremantle by 56 points, the Demons sit 10th on the ladder, two premiership points off of Essendon.

The run home for the 2021 premiers consists of clashes against GWS, Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide, Gold Coast (away) and Collingwood.
