Melbourne's Kysaiah Pickett is expected to gain scrutiny by the Match Review Officer for an ugly bump on Western Bulldogs midfielder Bailey Smith.

The incident took place midway through the second quarter of Saturday night's match at the MCG, with Pickett leaping into Smith as the Dogs star disposed of the ball.

Pickett's feet lifted off the ground as he looked to make contact with Smith, with the Demons forward reported after making high contact and flooring his opponent.

Smith was able to continue in the match, a factor that may work in Pickett's favour when the MRO assesses the incident.

If the MRO deems Pickett's actions as intentional, the Melbourne livewire's chances of missing upcoming matches will be increased.

If judged intentional, along with high contact and medium impact, Pickett would receive a two-match suspension from the MRO.

If the level of impact was registered as high, Pickett would face a three-game suspension, while a low reading with intentional conduct and high contact would result in a one-game ban.

If the MRO judges Pickett's actions as careless, the Demons forward will avoid suspension if the level of impact is assessed as low, assuming the MRO lists the bump as high contact.

A careless conduct, medium impact and high contact assessment will result in a one-game suspension, while careless/high/high will see Pickett miss two matches.

Melbourne are scheduled to face Brisbane, Sydney and West Coast in their next three matches.
