Melbourne could be without key position players Jake Lever and Matthew Jefferson for Saturday's clash with Gold Coast, while there is "positive" news for sidelined defender Steven May.
Jefferson was subbed out of Sunday's loss to North Melbourne due to a hand injury early into the contest, with tactical sub Taj Woewodin taking his place ahead of the second term.
Lever suffered a rolled ankle in the 59-point defeat and required assistance on the sidelined after hobbling from the field in the third quarter, with the premiership defender managing just half of the final term.
Speaking after the loss, coach Simon Goodin said Lever will need to be assessed ahead of the club's Round 3 clash with Gold Coast, while Jefferson had suffered a fractured hand.
"Jake Lever has got a rolled ankle," the Demons coach revealed. "He'll be assessed but should be fine.
"Jefferson has got a fracture to his hand."
There is positive news for Melbourne on the injury front, with May receiving "some pretty positive news" after visiting a specialist on Saturday for his larynx injury.
May missed Melbourne's season opener against GWS due to a fractured larynx, with further assessment of the ailment required over the weekend.
While May is no certainty of suiting up against his old side, Goodwin hinted there was some hope he could play in Round 3.
"Steven May saw a specialist and got some pretty positive news," he said.
"So once again, we'll listen to all the instructions through the week and make sure that he's right to go."
The Demons could have Caleb Windsor (foot) and Jake Melksham (hamstring) available this week, while defender Marty Hore (hand) made his return from injury via the VFL over the weekend.
Melbourne will host Gold Coast at the MCG on Saturday at 1:20pm (AEDT) as they search for their first win of the season.
