West Coast's dire day in the WAFL has been made worse after young Eagle Elijah Hewett suffered an ankle injury early in the first term.
The Eagles suffered a massive 169-point loss to West Perth on Saturday, failing to score a single point in the first quarter as the Falcons ran rampant, kicking 34 goals.
West Coast are already contending with a growing injury list at senior level, with Luke Shuey, Jeremy McGovern, Jamie Cripps, Tom Cole, Liam Ryan, Dom Sheed among those unavailable, as Hewett was sent down to the reserves to build match fitness.
The 18-year-old was injured before collecting a disposal in the first quarter, while Isiah Winder was withdrawn from the clash due to a knee injury, confirmed through a club statement.
“The Eagles have also been forced to withdraw midfielder/forward Isiah Winder from today's WAFL Eagles team because of a knee injury,” the statement said.
“He reported soreness in his left knee post-training on Thursday, and the club will continue to investigate the issue and the club will have more clarity early next week.”
Harry Edwards has also suffered a wrist injury at training, withdrawn as an emergency West Coast's side to face Geelong on Sunday.
“The West Coast Eagles have today withdrawn Harry Edwards from the list of emergencies for tomorrow's game against Geelong,” a club statement read.
“While he is unavailable to play this weekend, the club will undertake further examination of the injury before establishing a precise timeline on his return.
“Edwards injured his wrist at training, and because of persistent swelling in the area, the club opted to have it scanned late yesterday, which subsequently revealed a small fracture. He has been replaced in the squad by young defender Rhett Bazzo.”
The Eagles had six AFL listed players feature in the reserves match on Saturday; Zane Trew, Rhett Bazzo, Harry Barnett, Tyrell Dewar, Coby Burgiel and Hewett.
