Ex-players are hitting out at each other left right and center at the moment.
Former St Kilda player and current Match Review Panel member, Nathan Burke, is the latest to get stuck into Nick Dal Santo, who has become somewhat of an outspoken commentator since switching to media after his playing career.
Dal Santo labelled the MRP as "inconsistent" following the round seven findings, which saw Jarrad Waite and Koby Stevens suspended for dangerous tackles, while Adelaide's Charlie Cameron escaped with a fine for punching North Melbourne's Kayne turner in the stomach.
“The jumper punch and gut shot just don’t make sense to me,” Dal Santo said.
“You are allowed to punch in the guts as hard as you like — that’s fine — it’s worth a $2,500 fine.
“You are not allowed to punch somebody in the face unless you are holding their jumper and the thickness of the footy jumper is let’s say 2mm.
"So as long as you are holding 2mm of their jumper, you can just square them up in the nose and that’s fine. If you let go of the jumper, you are probably looking at four weeks.
“It’s just a bit inconsistent. It just doesn’t make sense for mine.”
But Burke hit back at the former Saint and Roo, with a slightly humerous insult.
“I love Nick, he’s a ripping bloke but let’s face it: he couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag,” Burke said.
“Every single punch to Nick probably looks like it’s coming from Rocky Balboa.
“Charlie Cameron, he didn’t get away with it. It was a $2,500 fine. We need to understand that a $2,500 fine is a sanction, it’s not getting away with it.#That’s what Charlie copped.
"That’s his second strike now, another fine he automatically gets a week upgraded onto whatever sanction he gets.
“And with the Buddy Franklin one, we graded it low impact. If we had of given him intentional or low impact to the head, that’s two weeks.
“So my advice to Nick is: don’t become one of these soft ex-footballers, Nick. Harden up.”
