The Seven Network, in conjunction with the AFL, have shifted the starting times of two clashes scheduled for Saturday to allow for the Matilda's knockout World Cup quarter-final against France to own a clear broadcast window.
The Sydney Swans' home date against the Gold Coast Suns will be moved forward from 2.10pm AEST to 1:45pm AEST in an effort to allow breathing room to the world game's clash at Suncorp Stadium.
Victorian rivals Melbourne and Carlton will then do battle at 7:30 pm AEST, five minutes after the previous start time of 7:25pm AEST.
The SCG and MCG will also be showing the Matildas' date with destiny on the big screen for patrons that wish to stay behind or arrive early.
Both moves have been made to either allow for a full-length pre-game on the broadcast for the World Cup contest or to provide a clear space for Seven News to be shown in all markets directly after the final whistle.
Speaking to AFL Media, Channel Seven's managing director Lewis Martin claimed the scheduling shifts were moves the whole country was likely to get behind.
"This Saturday will be an historic moment for all Australians, and the biggest night of sport since Sydney 2000 as the mighty Matildas look to capitalise on their inspiring World Cup campaign," Channel Seven's managing director Lewis Martin said.
"Between the Matildas and finals footy coming early for AFL with the Carlton against Melbourne thriller, it doesn't get bigger than Saturday night across the screens of Channel Seven.
"Like the rest of Australia, Seven is right behind the Matildas and we have worked closely with the AFL to adjust bounce times for certain games on Saturday to ensure no one misses a minute of what will be a massive night for both women's football and AFL."
