North Melbourne defender Kallan Dawson has signed a one-year contract extension, securing his place at Arden Street until at least the end of 2025.

This deal marks the next step for the 25-year-old, who has steadily made his mark in the AFL since joining the Kangaroos.

Recruited from Williamstown in the VFL with pick No.2 in the 2022 mid-season rookie draft, Dawson has played nine senior games for North Melbourne.

He was a standout in the VFL, anchoring the defence across 18 games and earning a spot in the senior team soon after rookie selection, appearing in North Melbourne's final four games of 2022.

Despite an ankle injury that sidelined him after the first four games of this season, Dawson is set to make his return against West Coast in Perth this weekend.

His pre-season efforts and early-season performances have solidified his reputation as a potential mainstay defender for the Kangaroos.

North Melbourne's head of football talent, Brady Rawlings, shared the club's enthusiasm about Dawson's re-signing.

"We're excited to have Kallan recommit to the club for another season," Rawlings said.

"He had a fantastic pre-season and made a solid start to the season with his defensive efforts and team-first attitude before being interrupted by injury. We look forward to welcoming him back into the side this weekend and watching him continue to develop and establish himself as an important part of our defence."

Dawson's commitment follows the re-signing of several key players, including Harry Sheezel (2030), Tristan Xerri (2029), and Tom Powell (2026). The club hope this trend of player retention underscores North Melbourne's building of a solid future core of shinboners.
