Sacked St Kilda coach Brett Ratten has accepted a part-time position under Alastair Clarkson at North Melbourne for 2023.
Ratten was stunningly shown the door at Moorabbin last month, less than 100 days after recommitting to the club until the end of 2024.
The severance saw St Kilda act swiftly after Ratten was moved on, with former senior coach Ross Lyon brought back into the fold within two weeks.
Ratten will now set to step back into the AFL coaching landscape with the Kangaroos, working as a part-time assistant at Arden Street with the Roos' midfield group.
“Brett comes to the club as an experienced, knowledgeable football person and we are thrilled to welcome him to Arden St,” North Melbourne's general manager of football Todd Viney said.
“Brett is a highly regarded operator who has been part of premiership success during his time at Hawthorn. His vast coaching experience will be a huge asset for our club.”
The move will see Ratten reunite with Clarkson, with the pair having worked together at Hawthorn from 2012 to 2018 in what was a successful period for the Hawks.
Ratten left Waverley in a move to St Kilda, earning his second senior coaching gig after previously being behind the wheel at Carlton.
The premiership midfielder was moved on from Princes Park in 2012 as Carlton looked toward Mick Malthouse, with Ratten's tenure ending after 120 games in charge of the Blues.
Ratten managed just 68 games with St Kilda, managing a 50 per cent win rate.
North Melbourne has seen widespread change among the club's hierarchy this year, with chief executive Ben Amarfio resigning from his role, while Todd Viney has stepped into the general manager of football position.
The Roos have also been linked to Geelong football boss Simon Lloyd, who could succeed Amarfio in 2023.
