North Melbourne ruckman is in for the long haul after signing a four-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of 2029.

Xerri - who is relishing the opportunity of being the number one ruck - has impressed the football world so far in 2024, rivalling the game's best big men in the opening weeks of the season.

Set to become a free agent, the lifetime Kangaroos supporter first made his debut in 2020 and has knocked back the potential of ditching the colours he grew up wearing.

Xerri has enjoyed a strong start to 2024, currently ranked third in the competition for total hitouts (average of 34.2 per game), second for tackles (8.3 per game) and fourth for clearances (7.7 clearances per game).

North Melbourne Head of Football Brady Rawlings is ecstatic by Xerri's commitment to the club, saying he's a significant cog to what they're building.

“Tristan is a very important pillar in the club's plans for the future, so we're rapt to add him to the list of players who have re-committed long-term,” Rawlings said.

“He's worked hard to establish himself as our No.1 ruck over the past 18 months and has not only developed his ruck craft well during his time at Arden Street but also his ability to impact the contest in the air and at ground level.

“We look forward to watching him take his game even further over the coming years.”

Taken with pick 72 in the 2017 National Draft, Xerri has featured in 39 games.

The 25-year-old leads the game's ruckman in tackles (50), second in clearances (46), third in pressure acts (100) and seventh in hit-outs to advantage.

Xerri previously requested a trade to St Kilda ahead of the 2022 season but was retained by North Melbourne and is now reaping the benefits.
