North Melbourne wingman Daniel Howe has called time on his career after 12 months at Arden Street.
Howe earned a career lifeline with the Roos via last year's Rookie Draft, linking up with former Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson and ex-teammate Liam Shiels in the blue and white.
The 27-year-old started his career with the Hawks after being drafted to the club in 2014, playing a total of 96 games over an eight-year period at Waverley.
After being delisted by Hawthorn at the conclusion of 2022, Howe gained an AFL reprieve with the Kangaroos as Clarkson and Shiels also made their way to North Melbourne.
Howe would feature in 11 games for the Roos this year before deciding to announce his retirement this week.
North Melbourne revealed Howe's decision on Tuesday afternoon, with football boss Todd Viney thanking the midfielder for his service to the club.
“Dan has only been at the club for one season, but he's had a significant impact on the group in his time here,” Viney said in a club statement.
“He brought a professional attitude to his training and preparation, and gave his all in every game he played, whether at AFL or VFL level.
“At the end of the season Dan had a chat with Clarko about what 2024 looked like and he decided it was in his best interests to prioritise life beyond AFL football.
“We wish Dan all the best for his future endeavours and thank him for his service to North Melbourne.”
Howe becomes the eighth player to leave the Kangaroos following their 17th-placed finish under Clarkson, joining Ben Cunnington (retired), Jacob Edwards (delisted), Aaron Hall (retired), Flynn Perez (delisted), Phoenix Spicer (delisted), Lachie Young (delisted) and Jack Ziebell (retired) in departing.
