North Melbourne recruiter Will Thursfield has revealed that the Kangaroos' Pick 2 in Wednesday's draft is still in play should an appropriate deal come knocking from a rival club.

The rumour mill has churned over whether North Melbourne split their early selection for two or more first-round picks, as this year presents a stacked draft class, with the number one pick still uncertain due to the abundance of talent.

Richmond, who currently hold eight picks inside the first 24 selections, are likely to be the key club that could turn the Roos' head for a stunning pick swap, while Adelaide may also look to moe up from Pick. 4.

Currently, North Melbourne only hold Picks 2 and 62 in this year's draft, and with the surplus of future stars available, boosting their quantity of selections is a tempting proposition.

Prospects such as Finn O'Sullivan, Sam Lalor, Sid Draper, Harvey Langford, and Jagga Smith are all potential Pick 1 choices, and a late trade for North Melbourne could still allow the Kangaroos to draft one of these talents, with the addition of another mid-range first-round pick to boot.

However, Thursfield has maintained the Kangaroos will still be satisfied with retaining Pick 2.

"Potentially [open to trading Pick 2]. It's been a little bit overstated our willingness to move," Thursfield said on Gettable.

"Pick 2 is a very, very good pick and we're hoping it's a star player, so we're very happy just sitting there. But again, not ruling anything out."

Thursfield also stated that his club will be keen to shop their future first-round pick for another choice in this year's draft.

North Melbourne traded Picks 25, 44, and 67 for veteran recruits Jack Darling, Luke Parker, and Caleb Daniel, as well as young Swan Jacob Konstanty in the October trade period, leaving the Roos low on draft stocks.

"Because of the guys we bought in during the trade period we've got 2 and 62 at the moment, to get something in between that would be nice," Thursfield said.

"Again, it'll come down to who's there, what's the cost of getting back in, all those things, but we'll be working the phones."

The first round of the AFL National Draft begins on Wednesday night, followed by the remaining selections on Thursday.
