The North Melbourne Kangaroos are reportedly considering an offer for our of favour Melbourne Demons' forward Sam Weideman.
Weideman has been shifted to the background this year following Melbourne's acquisition of Ben Brown from the Kangaroos. That combined with the performances of Luke Jackson and Tom McDonald have kept the almost two-metre tall forward out of the Demons' team for much of the season.
Brown himself has battled to be a regular starter for the Demons this year, having played just six games to date. It hasn't helped Weideman though, who is sitting on a tally of five games.
More worryingly for the 24-year-old, who debuted for the Demons in 2016, he hasn't played a single game since Round 13.
Now, according to an AFL.com report, the Kangaroos are weighing up their options to make an offer for the 49-gamer.
It's understood that, as yet, they are yet to table a formal offer for Weideman, but could be looking to bolster their own forward stocks.
Weideman will return to action in the VFL this weekend as it returns from a competition pause following the lifting of Melbourne's lockdown. Despite booting three goals a piece in his last two lower league contests before the pause, he has been unable to get reselected for the AFL side.
Off contract at the end of the year, reports suggest the Demons could yet re-sign the youngster, but are yet to make a decision on his future, as well as a number of other players.
The Demons sit third on the AFL ladder, and while their attack only ranks as seventh-best, it should hardly come as a shock that players outside the top 22 have at times, struggled to break in to the strongly-performing outfit.
It's also understood the Gold Coast Suns have been showing some interest in Weideman, meaning a three-way fight could yet break out for his services in 2022.
