Rivals are reportedly set to come hard for out-of-contract Gold Coast midfielder Alex Davies, with Collingwood and Geelong flagging their interest.

Davies has struggled to cement his spot in the Suns senior side after graduating from its Academy in 2020, playing 32 games for the club.

As a result, rivals with midfield needs, such as the Pies and Cats, are beginning to circle, according to AFL Media's Josh Gabelich, in an attempt to bolster their on-baller stocks.

The 2023 premiers' ageing list is a reason for concern, with much of the responsibility laid on the shoulders of Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom.

And in the absence of Tom Mitchell and Jordan De Goey for extended periods through injury, the Pies were given plenty of feedback that their wunderkind Nick Daicos needs assistance in the centre, making Davies a perfect fit.

The same can be said for Geelong, who will be looking to the future after Patrick Dangerfield and Cam Guthrie, with both dealing with injuries in recent years.

The Cats are well into Western Bulldogs' Bailey Smith but are still keen to add some youth to the developing midfield that has Tanner Bruhn, Max Holmes and Jhye Clark.

Davies' situation at Gold Coast is interesting given how stacked the club is through the engine room, boasting the likes of Noah Anderson, Matt Rowell and Touk Miller, while the development of Sam Flanders and Bailey Humphrey will likely round out the contingent.

The 22-year-old does have a two-year deal on the table from the Suns but is reportedly keen to explore his options before making a decision.
