Collingwood and Gold Coast have exchanged draft selections to finalise the first confirmed trade of the off-season.
The Magpies have gained five selections from the Suns, who will acquire three 2022 draft picks from Collingwood.
The trade will see Gold Coast will send picks 22, 46, 58, 79 and a future fourth-round selection to the Magpies, while Collingwood part ways with their future second, third and fourth round selections.
The swap will see the Magpies bolster their draft hand for this year's count in order to collect enough draft points to match an early bid for father-son prospect Nick Daicos.
The Suns, who entered the trade period with seven selections, will now move four of their 2021 picks to aid their list size management while adding three future selections for next year.
“This deal obviously gives us the scope to pursue a range of possibilities,” Collingwood GM of Football, Graham Wright, per the Magpies' statement.
“We have happily been able to make a commitment to Nick Daicos and we are in discussions to acquire a few others. More broadly, the deal enables us to continue to build a stockpile of young talent.
“We mined the draft last year to bring six of the first 44 players into our program. Close to half of our list are in the 1-3 year phases of their careers and today’s agreement with the Suns will allow us to keep pursuing our strategy.”
