The future of flag-winning Magpies defender Nathan Murphy could well be in doubt after the stopper exited Collingwood's grand final win last month with a concussion.

Since making his debut in 2018, Murphy has earned a reputation as being willing to go back with the flight, choices that have routinely left the 23-year-old battered and bruised.

As reported by News Corp, Murphy's head knock sustained during the opening term of this year's decider left him with concussion symptoms, the tenth such time this has happened across his junior and AFL careers.

In the wake of the premiership win, Murphy's management is reported to have contacted the AFL to have the headband-wearing interceptor assessed by independent practitioners.

At present, Collingwood, Murphy, his family, and management are awaiting a call.

Said report also claims that while Murphy was not officially ruled out of the grand final after being collected by Lion Lincoln McCarthy, the defender subbed himself out after reporting blurred vision.

Murphy is also said to have abstained from drinking alcohol in the aftermath of the Pies' record-equalling 16th premiership win.

The Sandringham Dragons product has worn Collingwood's famous black and white bars on 57 occasions, including in each of the club's six finals during the Craig McRae era.
