Collingwood is reportedly searching for some later draft picks to allow the club the opportunity to match a bid for father-son prospect Nick Daicos.
Daicos is expected to be bid on within the top two selections on draft night meaning the Pies would require 2400 points if he was bid on first by North Melbourne or 2014 points if he’s bid on second by GWS.
Ironically The Giants' pick 2 was originally Collingwood's. However, they traded that selection away last year.
Collingwood's current draft hand only equals 1707 points meaning they are well short of the picks required to the Oakleigh Chargers prospect and participate in the draft beyond the first round and avoid going into a deficit.
Peter Ryan of The Age is reporting that Collingwood are now looking to secure a deeper pool of picks from other clubs to allow them to secure Daicos.
Collingwood could look to trade out future picks for selections in the 2021 draft.
An obstacle they do face is the fact they may be bringing in Patrick Lipinski (Western Bulldogs) and Nathan Kreuger (Geelong) through the trade period.
The Pies are reportedly not keen on including any of their current draft picks in those deals.
Trading out players always remains an option. However, there aren't too many Collingwood players generating much interest.
Mason Cox may be on his way out but other clubs will likely only be keen on making a play for the American as a delisted free agent.
