The 2020 off-season has seen almost every club turn cut-throat as vast list size reductions become the norm due to the current financial strain across the competition.

While many players will be given a second chance, delisted Eagles veteran Lewis Jetta won't be looking for a return to the league, instead opting for a spot in the WAFL with Swan Districts in 2021.

Many were surprised with Jetta's axing from the Eagles, with the belief the 31-year-old had plenty of senior football left in him.

Teammate Will Schofield has thrown his support behind Jetta, calling West Coast's decision to cut him from their list a "por decision".

โ€œLooking at specific guys, Lewis Jetta โ€“ signing Alex Witherden (will) make it tough for him to get a spot on the list, I think,โ€ Schofield toldย The West Australian.

โ€œ(Iโ€™m) unsure where that will put him. Ideally, Iโ€™d personally like to see him go around again.

โ€œIโ€™ve been pretty public with my recognition of what he does on the footy field. Heโ€™s never been a 30-touch player, but heโ€™s 10 to 15 touches and youโ€™re getting five goals out of every time he touches the footy. I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s many guys in the AFL that do that.

โ€œIโ€™ve publicly said heโ€™s the best player Iโ€™ve ever played with. I would think itโ€™d be a poor decision, list-wise, to not have him on the list. But weโ€™ll see how that goes.โ€

Speaking onย SEN's Sporting Capital,ย Jetta revealed he was content with remaining outside AFL circles despite Schofield's comments.

โ€œMe and Will Schofield weโ€™re pretty close and we love each other as teammates, but also weโ€™re really close friends off the field as well,โ€ Jetta said.

โ€œSame with a lot of the Sydney boys that Iโ€™m close with, but being at West Coast Will was one of the ones I was closest with and for him to come out and say that means so much to me.

โ€œ(Heโ€™s) just a good friend, a great bloke and an amazing teammate, not to mention a premiership teammate.

โ€œIt almost brought a tear to my eye when I saw that and how much he cared for me.

โ€œIn the other sense, with all the talk and stuff, I wasnโ€™t too fazed, Iโ€™ve had a bit of free time, swimming lessons at school, my mind was purely busy on waking up in the morning, making the kidsโ€™ lunches and getting the uniforms sorted, getting their swimming stuff sorted, going and watching swimming lessons and picking them up from school.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t thinking about it too much. I was just making sure with all this free time to use it to my advantage and just bring a smile to my kids to be honest.โ€

Jetta has kept an open mind when looking toward the future.

โ€œI still think I had a couple of years left, but looking back now, Iโ€™m satisfied,โ€ the premiership Eagle said.

โ€œIโ€™m very satisfied, Iโ€™m happy and the way I see it, footyโ€™s not everything.

โ€œIโ€™m ready for this new chapter in my life and Iโ€™m ready to spend a lot more time with my children and teach them about life, which is probably the biggest excitement that Iโ€™m getting at the moment.โ€

Jetta revealed his disbelief when looking back on his AFL career.

โ€œItโ€™s hard to explain it โ€ฆ Iโ€™m just a boy from Bumbry and back in โ€™09 or โ€™07, I never thought about making it to the AFL and then having the career that I had, it was just a dream to be honest,โ€ he said.

โ€œThinking back now, I still canโ€™t believe it. I reflected with my family and a couple of brothers and still canโ€™t believe it.

โ€œNow my son and my daughter are reflecting as well which is even better because all they see is daddy is being dad and being โ€ฆ not a superstar, letโ€™s put half a star.

โ€œAt the end of the day thatโ€™s all I tried to do, making the family proud and bringing entertainment to a lot of fans.โ€
