The AFL has given in to the demands of the fans, reportedly locking in 23 weeks of Thursday-night football in 2025.
The home-and-away season spans 25 weeks due to the pairs of byes Opening Round participants will have and the mid-season break all 18 clubs encounter.
The 2024 home-and-away season featured 14 Thursday night games, up from 12 in 2023 and nine in 2022.
Across the first 16 weeks, Essendon will play in four Thursday night matchups, while Carlton, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Geelong Cats, the Brisbane Lions and the Western Bulldogs will play in three.
Marvel Stadium and The MCG will host four matches, with the Gabba set for three Thursday night match ups, Optus Stadium to host two and the Adelaide Oval one.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was great to be able to increase Thursday night football matches next season.
"There has been a strong desire from fans and our broadcast partners for more Thursday night football, and we are excited to be able to deliver in spades next season," said Dillon.
"Fans will be able to take in a total of 23 games of Thursday night football next season, which is more than there has ever been."
SEN's Sam Edmund believes the broadcast powerhouse is eyeing a 7:30 pm match on Sunday evenings in the first third of the season.
It is understood that the game won't be in addition to the three televised matches on the popular channel and won't disrupt the 6 pm News segment.
The full 2025 fixture will be revealed on Thursday.
