AFL great Gerard Healy will make the switch from 3AW to SEN from the end of this year, leaving the station after 28 years to link up with Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes for a rivalling prime-time slot on the airwaves.
Healy has been a key piece in 3AW's Sportsday program, having partnered with panellist Dwayne Russell - who is also now at SEN - and more recently journalist Sam McClure to lead the popular drive-home show.
The 1988 Brownlow medallist will pair with Cornes under the Sportsday banner at SEN, with 3AW rebranding their show to Wide World of Sports under its new ownership of Channel Nine.
“There would be no more respected voice in the radio drive time slot than Gerard,” SEN co-owner Craig Hutchison told News Corp of Healy's arrival.
“He has helped pioneer and lead the way on sports radio coverage in Australia as a top rating fixture every night since the early 1990s.
“To have the show and Gerard moving to 1116 SEN and our broader SEN network is an honour.”
Healy is set to make the move in November, with SEN's Sportsday to begin at 5:30pm local time.
The 61-year-old first joined 3AW in 1996 and held a commentary positon with the Seven Network shortly after retiring in 1990.
“It has been a real privilege to host Sportsday for 25 years, and I couldn’t be more excited for the program to find a new home at SEN. I’m looking forward to working with Kane, someone I have huge respect for, as we cover all the big issues across the AFL and sport in general throughout the SEN airwaves," Healy said, via SEN.
Cornes has been a figure in the media since 2016, holding roles with SEN and Channel Nine.
SEN is already home to AFL greats Nathan Buckley, Garry Lyon and Tim Watson.
