Port Adelaide has announced the signing of Jacob Moss, a 198cm talent who will join the Power as a category B rookie recruit for the 2025 season.
Moss, who will train under Ken Hinkley for the remainder of the club's current campaign, is a former Adelaide 36ers Academy player and arrives from NBL1 basketball side Sturt Sabres.
The 19-year-old played football as a junior with West Adelaide and Colonel Light Gardens Football Club, but has not been listed with a club for at least three years - making him eligible as a category B rookie.
Moss has begun training with the Power and will be eligible to play in the SANFL this year if needed.
โThe last week training with the team has just been so surreal,โ he said.
โLeaving basketball and spending the last year training and trying to get here, finally being at the club and being welcomed so much by the players and staff, it's been amazing. I couldn't ask for anything more.
โAs a basketballer, I was always known as the kid who used to play footy. You could always tell that footy was where I was meant to be.โ
Moss joins the likes of Hugh Greenwood, Mason Cox, Matt Owies, Oliver Hayes-Brown, Joe Furphy and Kyah Farris-White, among others, to have swapped basketball for AFL opportunities through the category B rookie system.
Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps said boasts exciting athletic traits that provide "a good sporting base".
โJacob is athletic and particularly strong in the air, with an excellent running vertical jump,โ Cripps said.
โHe has a good sporting base across basketball and junior football and we expect him to develop well in a professional AFL environment.
