Port Adelaide key forwards Mitch Georgiades and Charlie Dixon have each re-signed at Alberton, keeping them at the club on fresh four-year and one-year deals respectively.
Georgiades will be contracted until at least the end of 2027, while Dixon hopes to squeeze what he can out of one more season with the Power.
Taken with the 18th pick of the 2019 National Draft, Georgiades has found himself in and out of the Port Adelaide lineup, managing 49 AFL games to date with 65 career goals.
Still, the young forward has put together an extensive highlights package through his first four years, winning Mark of the Year in 2022 and electrifying audiences with his high-flying and strong hands.
These assets made him a notable target for multiple clubs as the off-season neared, with Victorian and West Australian teams looking to add him to their power-forward stocks.
Being a Subiaco junior, many thought his future looked to be going west after he was dropped by Port Adelaide following a poor Round 2 outing against Collingwood.
A knee injury soon after ended his season and rival interest began to ramp up.
Port Adelaide have managed to retain him however, assumedly as a long-term Dixon replacement.
“When you look at the group we have and the relationships I've built, you just want to be a part of it, it's too hard to leave that behind,” Georgiades said in a club statement.
“Obviously it hasn't been my best year but I'm just really grateful for the support I've had and for the club sticking by me.
“Now I'm eager to get to work and repay the faith over the next four years.”
32-year-old veteran Dixon will play on for a 14th year in the system, and his ninth season at Port Adelaide with his new contract extension.
The 110kg forward has been Port Adelaide's top goalkicker on three occasions, but enjoyed his best season to date in 2021, booting 48 goals as one of the scariest match-ups in the competition.
He also enjoyed a runner-up Coleman Medal season in 2020 where he kicked 32 goals in a COVID-struck year.
Dixon has dealt with injury struggles throughout his career and remains in doubt to play in this weekend's Qualifying Final with a hampered foot, but will be looking to help the Power on a premiership run for the next year, if not in the coming weeks.
“I have always said I'll keep playing footy as long as I am able to do what I can to help the team, and I've still got the passion to be out there with the boys,” said Dixon.
“I love this club and I'm excited to stick around and see what we can achieve together as a group.”
Port Adelaide List Manager Jason Cripps voiced his optimism after signing the pair.
“Charlie is a heart and soul player who continues to give his all for our club,” said Cripps.
“He's played an important role in helping develop our next generation of forwards including Mitch, who is an exciting player with a lot of promise.
“While we haven't had an opportunity to see the best of Mitch's talent in 2023, he is still young and has plenty of development in front of him.
“We're pleased to be able to see both Charlie and Mitch continue their time at Port Adelaide.”
Port Adelaide will travel to The Gabba this week to face the Brisbane Lions for their Qualifying Final on Saturday at 7:35pm (AEST).
