Port Adelaide premiership captain Warren Tredrea has joined the club's board following a narrow member-voted decision.

Tredrea edged out fellow candidate Bruce Abernethy with a 50.9% share of the votes, tallying just 199 votes - from a total of 10,405 ballots - more than his opposing board hopeful.

The Port Adelaide champion replaces Kathy Nagle at the cessation of her own three-year term.

โ€œWarren grew up at Port Adelaide. He played in a SANFL Premiership as a teenager before becoming one of our greatest AFL players,โ€ Port Adelaide chairman David Koch said in a club statement. ย

โ€œIt will be terrific to have his knowledge and experience around the Board table.ย

โ€œA total of 10,405 member ballots were received, which historically is a very high number.ย ย

โ€œIt's pleasing to see so many members engaged in their football club and having a say, in what was an incredibly close result.ย ย

Tredrea played 255 games for the Power across 14 years in the AFL, leading the South Australian club to its maiden premiership in the competition in 2004.

"I understand this position is not to be taken lightly and I hold it with the utmost of responsibilities. I will hold myself to the highest of standards and will drive everyone involved in our Club to do the same, honouring the former custodians of the Club who drove the Club from a community Club formed just a dozen years after the game was invented, to becoming one of the winningest football Clubs in Australia.

Koch also thanked Abernethy for his continued support of the club.ย

โ€œI sincerely thank Bruce Abernethy for his nomination to join the Board as a member elected Director," Koch said.
