Port Adelaide star Zak Butters has avoided significant damage after suffering a rib injury in Thursday's loss to Geelong.

Butters played just the opening half before being subbed out at the main break of the Power's eventual 84-point loss at home, with fears the gun midfielder may miss his side's upcoming semi-final affair.

The club has confirmed scans have shown no fractures or internal damage to Butters, who will face fitness tests over the next week to be cleared to face Hawthorn.

"Port Adelaide vice-captain Zak Butters has been cleared of serious injury after being subbed out at half time of Thursday night's Qualifying Final," a club update read.

"Butters underwent scans which showed bruising to the ribs but ruled out any fracture or injury to the internal organs.

"The midfielder will be assessed throughout the week ahead of next weekend's semi-final against Hawthorn."

Butters will have more than a week to recover in time for his side's home final, with the Power's next game coming no earlier than Friday night.

The Power will be buoyed by having a home final and not being required to travel between games as Butters prepares to prove his fitness.

Port Adelaide will need a win over Hawthorn to keep their season alive and avoid successive years of straight sets finals exits.

Details for week two of the AFL finals will be confirmed in due course.
