Port Adelaide defender Tom Clurey has avoided suspension for a strike during Saturday's SANFL game for the Magpies.

A fourth-quarter incident involving North Adelaide's Lachlan Grubb earned the ire of the SANFL's Match Review Panel, with Clurey charged with striking Grubb.

The incident in question saw Clurey penalised by the umpire for making contact to Grubb's midriff, with the Roosters player manning the mark and stationary at the time of the hit.

A free-kick was given against Clurey, with Grubb gaining possession as a result of the strike.

The competition's MRP has sanctioned Clurey, who has accepted a $125 fine for his actions. The MRP graded the incident as intentional conduct, body contact and low impact, resulting in the financial penalty.

Had the grading of impact been 'medium' or higher, Clurey would've been handed a suspension by the SANFL MRP.

The avoided ban means Clurey will be eligible for selection at both AFL and SANFL level, with the Magpies scheduled to face South Adelaide this weekend. The Power will host Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The club's reserves fell to North Adelaide by 74 points over the weekend, with Port Adelaide able to claim their first win of 2024 in Round 7 when they face a winless Panthers outfit.
