A trade deal between Port Adelaide and West Coast for Power defender Tom Clurey is in doubt just nine days from the trade period deadline.

Clurey had been linked to a move to the Eagles this year as the Perth clubs prepares to part with premiership defender Tom Barrass.

While West Coast is prepared to part with Barrass, a subsequent move that sees Clurey leave for Western Australia is now unlikely.

The Eagles are assessing their options to add depth to their list. However, the acquisition of Clurey is not expected to proceed.

"We're talking through a player that potentially may go out, and we may need some depth in positions," West Coast list manager Matt Clarke said.

"We've got a number of options that we want to talk through, whether that's through the trade period or free agents or train-on or SSP process.

"There's a number of mechanisms to use."

The Eagles will hope to secure more than just a first-round draft pick for Barrass, with the Hawks' Picks 14 likely central to a deal.

West Coast will await how Hawthorn approach negotiations before progressing discussions, noting the club wants a "fair conversation for a player of his value".

"He's a contracted player for three years, a key position player," Clarke said of Barrass.

"Tom has his reasons for wanting to move on, we respect that.

"At this stage, it's more on Hawthorn to come to us on what they think it's fair.

"We're not going to be silly about it, but we want fair conversation for a player of his value."

West Coast are keen on Richmond pair Liam Baker and Jack Graham, however, they are yet to be informed by the latter of his desire to depart the Tigers for the Eagles via free agency.

Clarke and his team will assess further potential targets over the coming days, with Western Australian and Brisbane midfielder Deven Robertson assessing his options and a chance to leave the Lions for WA.
