Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes has listed a trio of potential players the Power could aim to recruit in order to bolster their midfield.

Cornes feels the midfield is an aspect of Port's game that needs significant improvement if the team is to start competing for premierships.

Speaking to SEN SA Breakfast, Cornes pitched a few names that the Power could look to pick up in the coming trade period in order to take their game to the next level.

The 300-gamer named GWS duo Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper, andย Doggies star Josh Dunkley as excellent potential pickups for Port in the future.

"Thereโ€™s three mids I reckon Port should go for," Cornes said.

"Oneโ€™s Hopper from the Giants, hasnโ€™t played much at all this year because of injury.

"Then thereโ€™s Taranto. Iโ€™m not sure if youโ€™re going to get Taranto because heโ€™ll get massive offers from Victoria where heโ€™s from, but youโ€™d definitely have a crack at him.

"Iโ€™m coming around to the idea of Dunkley, just because thereโ€™s not many out there... heโ€™s not only a midfielder, but he gives you some versatility."

Both Taranto and Dunkley fall out of contract at the end of the season, however neither player is eligible for free agency. Hopper has his contract placed to expire at the end of 2023.

Taranto has already previously expressed his interest in remaining with the Giants, but due to contract complications, GWS may have to let one of Taranto or Hopper go at the end of the season.

A return home to Victoria may be likely for Taranto if he were to leave, but Port could still look to sign him if he cannot agree to a new deal with the New South Wales side.

Taranto is having a standout season for the Giants, averaging close to 27 disposals a game, while Dunkley remains one of the most dominant midfielders in the competition, averaging around 26 disposals and six tackles this season.

Jacob Hopper has not played since Round 1 for GWS after sustaining a knee injury.
