Port Adelaide is aggressively pursuing yet another marquee signing as they look to construct an attack-heavy side for their debut AFLW season.

Dual All-Australian Docker Gemma Houghton is the prospect in hot pursuit as the Power are keen on snapping up one of the league's premier forwards.

Over the course of her 46-game career in the AFLW, Houghton has managed to boot 40 goals, including a 15-goal season in 2021, as her size and athleticism consistently pose a matchup nightmare for her opposition.

If the Freo goalkicker were to join Port, she'd be a welcome addition to a side that already boasts the likes of dual Crows premiership players Erin Phillips and Angela Foley.

Additionally, Houghton would be the first player to join the Power from outside South Australia.

Cross-town rivals West Coast also had their eyes set on pinching the power-forward from the Dockers, but according to reports from womens.afl, Port are the current frontrunners for the 28-year-old's signature.

Although they are yet to play an AFLW game, the potential combination of premiership pedigree and star power that the Alberton side may boast should make them an immediate threat to the rest of the already consolidated competition.

A date for the commencement of the seventh AFLW season is yet to be made public.
