Port Adelaide have announced Lachie Jones and Brynn Teakle have inked new deals with the club, remaining at Port until at least the end of 2024 and 2023, respectively.
The news out of Alberton comes just a day after Port announced the re-signing of defensive pair Trent McKenzie and Jake Pasini.
Jones signed on for an additional two years after impressing over his 20 games at the club. The fan favourite won't feature again this season as he is set to undergo hamstring surgery, but Port list manager Jason Cripps said he was looking forward to the "excitement" Jones will bring over the next two seasons.
“We love what Lachie brings in terms of his intensity, effort and attack on the footy,” Cripps said.
“We have seen him play both tall and small in the backline as well as playing forward more recently. We think with his speed, running capacity and skill set that he has the potential to play in all three areas of the ground.
“Lachie is another one of our emerging young players that make up the core of our side and we look forward to seeing the excitement he will continue to bring to Port Adelaide people over the next two seasons.”
Teakle is set to play just his second game this weekend after making his debut in Round 14. The 2022 mid-season recruit has impressed despite suffering a broken collarbone in his debut match, earning a one-year extension on the eve of his second game.
“Brynn has made a big impression in a short period of time, which is not easy when you are coming in part-way through the season,” Cripps said.
“We’ve liked what we’ve seen from him both with his ruck and forward craft, and hunt at ground level, as well as his application to his rehabilitation when he was injured.
“We think he has some attributes that suit the way we want to play and it’s a credit to Brynn that he has been able to earn a contract extension after just a couple of months with us.”
