Four Port Adelaide players have been caught in the midst of a potential COVID-19 breach.
As reported by The Advertiser, Zak Butters, Mitch Georgiades, Ollie Lord and Dylan Williams were spotted at the Olympic Swimming trials this week without wearing face masks.
As per policies put in place by Swimming Australia, any patrons who are attending a venue indoors must be wearing a fitted face mask unless they are eating or drinking.
The quartet of Port Adelaide players were pictured at the Marion Swimming Centre without face masks, with the club understood to be contacted for a comment on the matter.
The issue follows a recent COVID-19 breach by cross-town rivals Adelaide, who were hit with a $50,000 fine for a breach of AFL protocols.
The AFL found that a number of Crows players and officials did not wear masks correctly on a flight from Sydney to Adelaide, with the club requesting the league to investigate the breach.
AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said the Crows’ actions were simply inexcusable.
“First and foremost, we all have a very clear responsibility to ensure we do everything we can to best protect the health and well-being of our family, friends and everyone in the community,” Mr Dillon said.
“The rule here is clear and has been in place for some time and there is simply no excuse for not abiding by it.
“We will not compromise the health and well-being of the community, and remind everyone in the industry – players, coaches, officials and staff – that they have a responsibility to adhere to the rules for the safety of everyone.”
