Port Adelaide is reportedly interested in the prospect of luring Melbourne ruckman Brodie Grundy to Alberton during this year's upcoming trade period.
Grundy, a South Australian native, has been overlooked by the Demons' match committee the past fortnight, as skipper and ruckman Max Gawn continues to possess a vice-like grip on the Dees' number-one ruck mantle.
Meantime, the Power is seemingly seeking key-position help in the middle of the ground, with veteran Scott Lycett, Sam Hayes, and youngster Brynn Teakle all currently without Port Adelaide contracts going into next season.
As Grundy plies his forward trade with Casey in the VFL, Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley is understood to be keen on bringing the ex-Magpie to Alberton next season, according to SEN reporter Tom Morris.
"This will not come as a huge shock, but my understanding is that Ken Hinkley himself wants Brodie Grundy next year at the club," Morris reported on Monday morning.
"Scott Lycett is out of contract, so there is that room. If Grundy doesn't get back in (Melbourne's senior side) and play a meaningful role this year, this will reach a head in the trade period in some way.
"Either Brodie Grundy or his manager would speak to the club (Port Adelaide) or the club would speak to him. I can't imagine the Demons wanting to move him on, but if Grundy did to Melbourne what Collingwood did to him last year, then there would at least have to be a conversation.
"Port Adelaide would be right at the very front of that queue."
Grundy is contracted at Melbourne through the 2027 season, however, after the dealings that led to Grundy departing Olympic Park for Gosch's Paddock last year, it's not outside the realm of possibility to imagine another Grundy exchange in 2023.
The Power was said to be pursuing Grundy during last year's exchange window, however, the ex-Collingwood ruckman preferred to remain in Melbourne, settling on the Demons as his new club.
