Contracted Port Adelaide defender Daniel Houston is said to have officially requested a trade to Victoria.

The two-time All-Australian's future has been speculated on in recent months after trade links tied him to a potential move away from Alberton in favour of a switch to his home state.

Houston is under contract at the Power until the end of 2027, meaning Port Adelaide would need to be satisfied by any club keen to acquire Houston's services.

Collingwood, North Melbourne, Carlton and the Western Bulldogs have all been linked to the rebounding backman.

According to 7 News Adelaide's Josh Money, Houston informed the club of his desire to move back to Victoria during his exit meeting this week, with no preferred landing spot mentioned.

Houston is said to be open to remaining in South Australia if a deal between the Power and a rival club can't be struck.

"I have informed the club that my preference is to play in Victoria next year," Houston told media at club headquarters on Tuesday, per AAP.

"Obviously over the last few weeks I have had a fluctuation of emotions and if the deal can't get done I am happy to stay at Port Adelaide, I love the club.

"That is all I am going to say."

Port Adelaide are likely to demand at least one first-round pick in exchange for Houston, who won his second successive All-Australian blazer in 2024.

Neither Collingwood nor the Western Bulldogs currently hold a selection in the opening round of this year's draft, while Carlton are said to be reluctant to part ways with their top pick for November's count. - currently Pick 11.

The Dogs are likely to strengthen their draft hand with the expected departures of midfield duo Bailey Smith and Jack Macrae.

North Melbourne are reportedly open to parting with their future first-round draft selection in a deal for Houston.

Houston is suspended for the opening game of the 2025 season after receiving a five-game ban for his high hit on Adelaide's Izak Rankine in mid-August.

The 2024 AFL Trade Period opens on Monday, October 7.
