Port Adelaide forward Willie Rioli's now-deleted Instagram post has sparked further tensions between the Power and Hawthorn after Sunday's hotly anticipated match to conclude Gather Round.

Following a first-half blitz, Rioli and Port Adelaide managed to hold off the visitors to claim the victory by 30 points, but that wasn't before many fiery moments.

The goalsneak was awarded a double goal that sealed the all-important four premiership points in the second quarter after he taunted Hawthorn defender Changkuoth Jiath, who retaliated.

The umpires penalised Jiath for his actions, gifting Rioli another six-pointer to put the final nail in the coffin.

In a post which Rioli deleted on Monday morning, he spoke of his "hatred" for Hawthorn, saying: "Play with fire, you're gonna get burnt."

"My hatred for this club goes way pass last year antics, what they did to my dad, and my brother, is why I can't stand them. Not the players."

The motivation for Rioli's references to his family members is unknown, however, he is the cousin of Cyril Rioli, who has a difficult relationship with the Hawks.

Rioli's father, Willie Sr, who sadly died in 2022, was drafted by the Victorian club in 1990, but never played a senior game.

Port Adelaide released a statement regarding Rioli's social media post.

"Willie Rioli and his family continue to carry deep-seated pain and sadness from past family experiences," the statement said.

"Despite the depth of feeling Willie and his family have, social media was not the appropriate forum for Willie to share his emotions last night. Willie understands this.

"Willie's welfare remains our priority, and the club will continue to provide support for Willie and his family through this time."
