In-demand Port Adelaide defender Miles Bergman has officially made a call on his footballing future amid vast rival interest from his home state of Victoria.

The 21-year-old Bergman has recommitted to Port Adelaide, signing a fresh two-year contract extension on Thursday to cement his Alberton future until at least the end of the 2025 season.

"As a club, we're going really well," Bergman said of his decision to stay on Thursday.

"I've got some great friends at the club and we're really tight as a group.

"I think everyone can see how much potential we have, so I'm really excited about what we can produce in the next few years and I want to be a part of it.

"I'm really close to my family and friends (in Melbourne) but I love this club and I'm really excited that I get to stay and see what we can achieve together."

Port Adelaide list boss Jason Cripps spoke highly of Bergman's value to the Power, in particular citing his skill set and determination.

"Miles is an important and highly valued member of our team," Cripps said.

"He has a unique skill set that allows him to influence games in multiple roles.

"Miles is an extremely determined and driven player who is starting to see the benefits of his hard work through his performances this season.

"We're pleased that he has elected to remain at our club and looking forward to the next period of his growth."

Bergman, a Sandringham Dragons product, was seriously on the radar of numerous Victorian rivals.

Thursday's developments represent a major recruiting victory for the Power, having cemented the future of one of its key long-term players.

The half-back-flanker has showcased his prowess this season in what has been a breakout campaign.

Bergman's disposal use, shut-down roles on dangerous opposition forwards, and general defensive pressure have been highly-valued traits in coach Ken Hinkley's electric Power side.

Port Adelaide is fixtured to play Essendon this weekend at the MCG, as it looks to snatch its 12th-straight victory.
