Port Adelaide defender Trent McKenzie will miss the remainder of the home and away season after being ruled out for the next 4-5 weeks with a partial PCL tear.

McKenzie, 31, failed to finish Port's loss to Geelong on Saturday night, exiting the two-goal loss before the end of the first term.

This setback comes at a bad time for both club and player, with Port stuck in the midst of a month-long losing streak and McKenzie uncontracted at Alberton beyond the end of the season.

Since seeing his side's 13-game winning streak snapped by Carlton, Ken Hinkley's charges have fallen to fellow finals aspirants in Collingwood, Adelaide and the Cats in succession.

While the club was able to confirm that McKenzie would be sidelined into September, Port can expect reinforcements in the form of Jeremy Finlayson, Miles Bergman and Kane Farrell for their all-important clash against GWS during the Sunday twilight slot.

Defenders Aliir Aliir and Lachie Jones are also said to be "progressing well through the concussion protocols", with each of the stoppers still to be tested ahead of facing Adam Kingsley's side.

Currently clinging to a top-four finish and the adjoining double chance, Port will be desperate to stop the rot against the eighth-placed Giants, especially with intriguing outings against Fremantle (away) and Richmond (home) ahead of the finals.
