7. Lachie Neale

Lachie Neale is building the resume of one of the all-time great midfielders, and doing it somewhat under the radar.

Just in isolation, the two Brownlow Medals put him in rare company, but add these to a Leigh Matthews MVP award, AFLCA Champion Player Award, three All-Australians and five best & fairests, and we start to understand what kind of legacy we're watching unfold.

With real potential to become a premiership captain this year, Neale could be skyrocketed onto a shortlist of the greatest midfielders of the era with the likes of Nat Fyfe and Scott Pendlebury.

No one expects 2024 to be a career-best for the near 31-year-old but it will be his performance in September where he is judged and his placement is justified.
