With the 2024 season almost upon us, let's look through some stars of the competition to watch out for this year.
We've compiled a list of the projected top 50 players in the competition for 2024, starting with the names at spots 50 overall through to 41.
Rather than naming the best performers of 2023 or the top players entering Opening Round, this list will look at the best players currently with some projections as to how they may rank at the end of the year.
3. 48 - Matt Rowell
The former number one pick burst onto the scene in his first year with three consecutive best-on-ground performances and an air of greatness that was quickly put on hold by a season-ending injury.
He hasn't quite met the once-in-a-generation expectation that he set with his first four career games, but he has gradually returned to the same form after two full, uninterrupted seasons.
He was the most prolific tackler in the league last season and grew into one of the best clearance players, but also began showing clear improvements in his uncontested game toward the back end of the season.
Playing alongside two stars, Touk Miller and Noah Anderson, who will demand the attention of the opposing midfield, Rowell could take the league by storm if he continues his trajectory under new coach Damien Hardwick.
