Western Bulldogs premiership player, Josh Dunkley, has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at Whitten Oval until the end of the 2019 season.

Dunkley, 19, played 17 games in his debut year last season, including the grand final, after being selected with pick No.25 in the 2015 National Draft.

He could have easily become a Sydney player under the father-son rule, with Dunkley's father, Andrew, playing 217 games for the Swans, but Sydney chose not to match the Bulldogs' bid in the draft.

List manager, Jason McCartney, said Dunkley's signature is a crucial one for the club's future.

โ€œJosh has made an impressive start to his AFL career and weโ€™re thrilled to see him extend his contract with the Club,โ€ McCartney said.

โ€œHis development in such a short time at the Bulldogs has been terrific, and clearly his upside is enormous for such a young player.

โ€œIt was disappointing to see him suffer an injury earlier this season, however weโ€™re excited about what the future holds for him.โ€

Dunkley has only managed four games so far this season and is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.
