West Coast defender Tom Barrass is on the verge of agreeing to terms on a deal that will keep him in the west until the end of 2028.
News of the quiet achiever's mammoth contract came to light via a report from Jay Clark of The Herald Sun on Wednesday afternoon.
The six-year deal tabled to Barrass has arisen due to the Eagles' need to secure key defensive posts for the future, as former skipper Shannon Hurn appears almost certain to hang the boots up at the cessation of next season.
While Barrass and his management are yet to finalise the deal to stay on under Adam Simpson's guidance, the impending agreement will see the 26-year-old turn away from prospective free-agency offers a year ahead of schedule.
Having currently played 99-games across the course of seven seasons, the Western Australian would have qualified for Restricted Free Agency status following his 2022 campaign.
Although Barrass' recommittal has put paid to any big-money offers surfacing for his services, Clark reported that Sydney had previously been keen on prying him away from the west.
Clark also claimed that the Swans would now focus their attention on luring Collingwood's Darcy Moore to Moore Park.
However, the scribe also suggested that the Magpies remained confident that they could keep the 'pre-agent' on their books beyond the cessation of 2021.
