Gold Coast’s prized draftee Elijah Hollands is taking a cautious approach in his return from a knee reconstruction that he suffered in February this year.
Hollands, a skilled and strongly-built midfielder who was taken pick seven by the Suns in Wednesday’s draft, told Sam Edmund on The youngster is coming back from a knee reconstruction that he will not rush for a round one debut.
“In terms of when I’ll be available for selection, I guess that will be out of my hands,” Hollands said on Thursday.
“The 12-month mark will be the start of March, so I don’t know if there will be any aspirations in terms of trying to rush things and playing some footy.”
It’s been nearly nine months since Hollands ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, but he says that his confidence in his running is gathering traction.
“I’m moving really well at the moment… really starting to feel free in terms of running and gym stuff as well,” he said.
“There’s nothing that’s really holding me back anymore and I’m starting to get that confidence back which is good.
“I’m starting to amp up my running volume and get some kilometres in the legs which is good.”
Hollands averaged 17 disposals, five marks and a goal per game for Murray Bushrangers in the under-18s in 2019.
