An out-of-contract Lion has cemented his future in Queensland after extending his playing career in Brisbane on Thursday.
Young wingman Harry Sharp, nearing the conclusion of his third AFL season, has signed a two-year contract extension with the Lions, tying his future in Brisbane to at least the end of the 2025 season after entering this year uncontracted beyond 2023.
The 20-year-old Sharp, who was drafted by the Lions with the No. 43 selection in the 2020 AFL Draft, has played three of his ten career games this season during another successful home-and-away campaign for Chris Fagan's Brisbane outfit.
"I'm excited to recommit," Sharp said upon signing his new contract on Thursday.
"I love the group (of players), love what we are building here and I'm looking forward to what the future holds."
Brisbane football boss Danny Daly echoed Sharp's sentiments.
"He is another young player who has probably had the opportunity to go elsewhere but decided to stay with us, which we are really thankful for," Daly said.
"We see a great future for Sharpy. He's improving out of sight, so thank you for committing to us and staying at Brisbane."
The winger's best performance of the season came in a Round 9 win over Essendon when Sharp registered 17 disposals, six marks, and two inside-50s in a 42-point victory.
This year's Lions engine room has been a difficult one to earn and keep a spot in due to the bevy of ball-winning talent at Fagan's disposal. However, Sharp figures to receive increased senior opportunities as time progresses, particularly considering Will Ashcroft's long-term injury, with his absence potentially freeing up playing time on a wing.
Fellow Brisbane youngster Kai Lohmann remains without a Lions contract for next season, as do veterans Dayne Zorko, Marcus Adams, and Daniel Rich.
Sharp has been named as an emergency for Brisbane's final-round matchup with St Kilda at the Gabba this Saturday afternoon.
