2022 saw the AFL uncover a host of stars, while some well-known names strengthened their place and pedigree thanks to stellar campaigns.

So, we've attempted to compile a list ranking the 10 players that improved the most this season.

This list takes a look at where these players were positioned at the conclusion of the 2021 season and how they rank 12 months on.

Note: Players are required to have featured in the AFL in 2021, meaning Geelong forward Tyson Stengle was not eligible for our list.

7. Daniel Rioli

A move to the backline saw the premiership Tiger flourish, perhaps even keep his career alive.

Rioli was set to enter his seventh season at Punt Road as a fringe small forward in the final year of his contract, still needing to prove his place under Damien Hardwick.

Instead, the Tigers coach had other plans for the St Mary's product, moving Rioli to a half-back flank where he enjoyed a career-best campaign.

The 25-year-old would earn a spot in the All-Australian 44-man squad and eventually signed a new long-term deal that keeps him at Tigerland until the end of the 2027 season.

Next year, Rioli will be hoping to build on the fundamentals he was able to grasp in 2022 as he looks to help steer Richmond back toward the summit.

  1. Nick Daicos should be in the top 10 when we are talking about “improvement”, taking into consideration he was in the NAB League in 2021
