With season 2018 almost done and a host of young players starting to emerge as potential superstars, let's take a look at who your club could have taken in last year's first round of the National Draft.
Here is Zero Hanger's re-drafted first round of the 2017 AFL Draft:
Tom McCartin (Gold Coast)
Tall forward and brother to Patrick, Tom McCartin has impressed across his 12 games for the Swans this season, averaging four marks per game. McCartin is fifth four rising stars in contested marks across 2018.
James Worpel (Brisbane)
The "Worpedo" has become a cult hero at Hawthorn since deubuting, averaging 17 disposals per game. He has become a crucial part of the Hawks' midfield group in the run to September.
Brody Mihocek (Richmond)
Mihocek has been a consistent perfromer in his 10 games for the Pies since being picked up in last year's rookie draft. Mihocek highlighted his season by kicking four against North Melbourne at the MCG in July.
Hunter Clark (Western Bulldogs)
Clark has had a solid opening campaign for the Saints playing in defence, managing 15 games so far and has averaged 15 disposals per contest.
Charlie Spargo (Brisbane)
Small forward Charlie Spargo has impressed in his games for Melbourne this season, averaging close to a goal per game.
Matt Guelfi (Sydney)
Matt Guelfi appears to be a steal at 76 for the Bombers after having a good first year for the club. Guelfi has averaged 16 disposals in over 13 games.
Andrew Brayshaw (West Coast)
Brayshaw has had a solid debut season for the Dockers, although that was ended by Andrew Gaff in Round 20. Brayshaw has averaged 16 disposals a game for the Dockers and is another exciting young midfielder.
Lachie Fogarty (Adelaide)
Fogarty has played 15 games for Geelong this season and leads young players in tackles inside 50 for the year.
Zac Langdon (GWS)
Langdon has been a surprise packet for the Giants this season, kicking 19 goals. Langdon is third for goals for the Giants this season, including kicking three against Richmond when the Giants beat the premiers.
Adam Cerra (Carlton)
Cerra has averaged 14 disposals in his 19 games for Fremantle this season and is fifth amongst rising stars for inside 50s.
Aaron Naughton (Western Bulldogs)
The Dogs appear to have nailed this selection with Naughton looking to be a promising key defender for many years to come. He is third for rookies in total contested marks.
Bailey Banfield (St Kilda)
After being drafted as a rookie by Fremantle, Banfield has played 19 games for Ross Lyon and has averaged 15 disposals per game. He is third for young players for clearances in 2018.
Ed Richards (St Kilda)
The grand-nephew of Collingwood legend Lou, Ed has added to the Dogs' speed off half back with his ability to rebound the ball from defensive 50 and is equally dangerous up forward. Richards currently sits at sixth on the AFL player ratings for first-year players.
Jack Higgins (Collingwood)
This livewire forward has provided some more spark to the reigning premiers, with an ability to play in the midfield as well as playing as a small forward. Higgins averages 16 disposals per game and has kicked 12 goals this season.
Paddy Dow (Fremantle)
Since making his debut in round one, Dow has played 19 games, securing his place in the Carlton midfield. Dow has pace from packs and an ability to break tackles with ease and will only grow as his body matures.
Bayley Fritsch (North Melbourne)
One of the surprise packets of the season, Fritsch has secured his place in the Demons side, averaging 16 disposals and 6 marks per game. Fritsch is the second best ranked first year-player according to the AFL player ratings.
Cam Rayner (Carlton)
While Rayner may not have immediately set the competition on fire to begin his career, his recent six-week stretch has shown why the Lions took him with pick one, including a breakout performance against the Hawks, accumulating 19 disposals and three goals.
Tim Kelly (Fremantle)
The Dockers may rue missing out on the Perth native if he does not eventually return home, after putting in an emphatic season for Geelong. Kelly has averaged 23 disposals a game and is a crucial part of the Cats' pursuit of September action.
Jaidyn Stephenson (Brisbane)
Stephenson could already be a star and is a matchup nightmare for defences, standing at 188cm with unreal pace. Stephenson has played every game so far this season and has kicked 30 goals, the most among first year players. Coincidentally, Stephenson was a Lions supporter growing up too.
