Melbourne has made moves to keep red-headed rebounder Jake Bowey in the red and blue, with the premiership player signing a new two-year deal on Thursday.
Once seen as the Redlegs' good luck charm, Bowey tasted victory in his first 17 appearances after making his senior debut in Round 20 of Melbourne's drought-breaking 2012 season.
Throughout the course of 2023, the son of former Saint, Brett Bowey, turned out for Simon Goodwin's side for all 23 fixtures, averaging 16.1 disposals and 3.6 rebound 50s per outing.
Speaking as the ink dried on the 21-year-old's multi-year deal, Demons list bos Tim Lamb paid praise to Bowey, reiterating that he remained a key part of Melbourne's future.
“We are thrilled to have Jake extend his contract and we believe he will continue to play a pivotal role in our journey towards success,” Lamb told Melbourne Media.
“Jake has been a really strong contributor for the Melbourne Football Club, and we look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the future.”
Melbourne has 18 players without deals beyond the end of the 2024 season, with each of Adam Tomlinson, Andy Moniz-Wakefield, Bailey Laurie, Ben Brown, Daniel Turner, Ed Langdon, Jake Melksham, Jed Adams, Joel Smith, Josh Schache, Kyah Farris-White, Kynan Brown, Lachie Hunter, Marty Hore, Oliver Sestan, Tom McDonald, Tom Sparrow and Will Verrall all entering contract years.
