Norwood 18.14.(122) def Port Adelaide 5.9.(39)

Norwood got back on the winners' list with a commanding 83-point win over old rivals Port Adelaide at The Parade on Sunday.

Celebrating the anniversaries of the 1984 and 2014 premierships, the modern-day Redlegs put the Magpies to the sword, kicking their highest score in more than two years.

Port put up a good fight early on, kicking two of the first three goals and looking dangerous going inside 50.

Norwood soon kicked into gear and booted nine of the next 10 goals to hold a 45-point lead at the main break.

Having struggled to maintain leads in several games this year, the Redlegs managed to surge further ahead in the second half and build some valuable percentage.

After a disappointing fortnight before the bye, Norwood's midfield was back to its brutal best, helping the Redlegs to a 68-28 inside 50 advantage that proved telling in the end.

Billy Cootee returned to the lineup from a hamstring injury and didn't skip a beat, finding 28 disposals, seven clearances and a goal.

Baynen Lowe (28 disposals and nine inside 50s) was influential around the ball with his speed and skill, while Ben Simpson (23 disposals and six clearances) played his best game of the season.

Harry Boyd put in a typically strong performance in the ruck against Dante Visentini, collecting 21 disposals, eight clearances and a goal.ย

Jake Creswell was superb on the wing and tallied 20 disposals as he worked hard to get involved in offence and defence.

Intriguingly, key forward Jackson Callow attended most of the centre bounces as a midfielder and held up well, amassing 18 disposals and two clearances.

After each centre bounce, Callow shifted forward and kicked three goals to go with several strong contested marks.

Connor McLean feasted on the barrage of inside 50s and kicked five goals, while Finn Heard was prominent with his aerial work up front and finished with two majors.

Norwood's defence was clinical from the outset, with Tom Graham holding AFL-listed key forward Tom Scully to just four disposals, while Tom Donnelly blanketed Port Adelaide father-son prospect Preston Cockatoo-Collins.

Declan Hamilton (27 disposals) and Alastair Lord (19 disposals) provided plenty of dash from the half-backline and were damaging with ball in hand.

Despite enduring another heavy loss, Port Adelaide can take several positives from the clash, including a few bright spots in defence.

Tom Clurey was stoic in his matchup withย Callow and worked overtime to repel repeated Norwood attacks.

Dylan Williams found plenty of the ball and was composed throughout, while Miller Carter did well to hold Izak Twelftree to one goal and Brayden Calvett was solid against Jayden Gale.

Will Lorenz (21 disposals, seven clearances and two goals) was impressive through the midfield, Lachie Jones added a hard edge with his 11 tackles and Francis Evans was busy collecting 22 touches.

Tom Anastasopoulos was lively in the forward line and kicked three goals, making the most of limited opportunities.

Sturt 10.15.(75) def North Adelaide 9.9.(63)

Sturt held off a fighting North Adelaide outfit to claim an important 12-point win at Unley Oval on Sunday.

A blistering five-goal second term from the Blues proved pivotal, with North winning the other three quarters as they continually challenged the hosts.

The Roosters applied immense pressure around the ball for much of the day, denying Sturt the ability to implement their chip-kicking game.

Sturt were held to their third-lowest mark tally of the year, taking just 84 for the game and only two in the opening 15 minutes.

The Blues' all-conquering midfield was again critical in the win, with Tom Lewis (25 disposals and nine clearances), James Battersby (24 disposals and eight clearances) and Will Snelling (23 disposals and 14 tackles) boasting too much power at the contest.

Steven Slimming was a consistent performer on the wing and collected 25 disposals and five inside 50s.

Flynn Perez returned to the team and provided plenty of spark on the half-back line, finishing with 28 disposals and 12 marks.

Casey Voss was influential again as he collected 23 disposals and seven rebound 50s, while Luke Edmunds was excellent in shutting down Mitch Harvey.

Zac Becker played a superb game on dangerous Roosters forward Nigel Lockyer and Rory Illman kept Lachie Grubb goalless.

Up front, it was the smalls who did much of the damage for Sturt, with James Mathews proving lethal around the goals to snag three, while Sam Conforti was polished in kicking two majors.

For North Adelaide, Campbell Combe was typically tireless in his efforts through the midfield, finishing with a team-high 23 disposals, six clearances and 13 tackles.

Harrison Wigg was also damaging with 18 touches and worked hard around the ground, while Charlie Dinning chipped in with four clearances and four inside 50s.

Mitch Harvey kicked a couple of early goals and spent plenty of time in the ruck to collect 21 hitouts and five clearances.

Emerging forward Brad Ashcroft caught the eye with several strong marks and two goals, as did Ewan Mackinlay.

Captain Alex Spina was solid in defence and picked up 19 possessions, while Harrison Magor was a handy contributor with 15 touches and three rebound 50s.

West Adelaide 8.8.(56) def by Glenelg 16.12.(108)

Glenelg put the competition on notice with a thumping 52-point win over West Adelaide at Richmond Oval on Sunday, improving their record to 8-2.

The final margin flattered West Adelaide, who kicked the final five goals of the afternoon to put some respectability on the scoreboard after a dismal day at the office.

Glenelg led by 81 points early in the last as they held the Bloods to just three goals to three-quarter time.

Even without star forward Lachie Hosie, Glenelg looked every bit the attacking juggernaut that stormed to last year's premiership, kicking 16 goals in a frightening display of football.

The Bays enjoyed even contributions across the park, with five players racking up more than 20 touches and no less than 11 players hitting the scoreboard.

Matthew Allen was hugely damaging again, kicking four goals from 17 disposals and causing West Adelaide all sorts of problems.

Corey Lyons (17 possessions and seven clearances), James Bell (19 disposals and five tackles) and Billy Stretch (22 disposals and six tackles) proved too tough in the engine room.

First-year midfielder Jake Walker continues to impress with his power and ability to burst out of stoppages, finding 24 disposals and four clearances.

Ruckman Cam McGree was a welcome return in his first game since round one after a broken collarbone, finishing with 27 hitouts.

Jonty Scharenberg extended his purple patch of form in defence, collecting 25 disposals and eight rebound 50s as he continually repelled West Adelaide attacks.

Darcy Bailey (16 disposals) was another solid contributor in the backline, while Max Proud returned from suspension and tallied 17 disposals in a strong performance at the back.

Liam McBean was a consistent performer with 19 disposals, nine marks and two goals, while Riley Holder spent more time forward and slotted two majors from 21 touches.

The win was soured slightly by a two-match suspension handed to Will Gould for a high bump on Sam Frost late in the third quarter.

WATCH: GOULD HANDED TWO-GAME BAN FOR BUMP

On an otherwise forgettable day for West Adelaide, the Bloods had several players stand tall with commendable performances.

Frost was outstanding for the hosts, finishing with 32 disposals, 11 clearances and 17 tackles as he continually dug in for his team.

Kobe Ryan also had a good day with his 28 disposals and nine tackles, while Callum Park played his first game for the year and was prolific in finding 30 disposals across the back half.

Former Central District ruckman Wyatt Ryan was terrific in his first league game, tallying 31 hitouts and 17 disposals.

Josh Gore was a constant threat around goals and booted three majors, while Jed Obst, Jesse Thackeray and Michael Laudato were all busy and amassed 20 disposals each.
